PokerStars UKIPT Manchester Won By Dutch College Student

Dutch College Student, Joeri Zandvliet has one the main event of the inaugural PokerStars UK & Ireland Poker Tour (UKIPT). Zandvliet claimed the first place prize of £63,200 and entry into the £5,250 European Poker Tour (EPT) Main Event in London. The victory places him first on the Season 1 UKIPT leader board which will awards a total of £60,000 in cash and prizes to the top 100 players of all of the events of Season 1.

The final table saw Zandvliet heads-up against Jack Ellwood. In the last hand of the match, Zandvliet pushed all in pre flop with the chip lead and pocket nines and Ellwood called holding [A][Q]. A queen landed on the flop but Ellwood’s hopes were dashed when the nine fell on the river giving the first place prize to the Dutchman.

Joeri Zandvliet hails from Utrecht, The Netherlands and was absolutely delighted to have one the event. The final table offered very stiff competition for the college student, taking a long 9 hours to clear.

UKIPT host, Nick Wealthall was extremely happy with the way the event went calling it “an amazing experience for everyone.” In all, 518 players, of them 279 PokerStars members, participated in the inaugural £500+£50 buy-in UKIPT Main Event generating a total prize pool of £259,000 making it the largest poker tournament ever played in Manchester.

Among the players participating in the tournament were Manchester United’s Darren Fletcher and Manchester United legend Teddy Sheringham. Also in attendance were Team PokerStars Pros John Duthie, Julian Thew and Vicky Coren, who finished 25th for £1,650.

The £500 buy in event at the G Casino in Coventry is the next stop on the PokerStars UK & Ireland Poker Tour. Just as they did with the Manchester event, PokerStars is guaranteeing a £100,000 prize pool. The winner of the Coventry event will receive entry into the £5,250 European Poker Tour (EPT) Main Event in London in addition to their first place prize.
