James Akenhead Claims Victory at Full Tilt Poker Million VIII
Saturday, 5. December 2009

Full Tilt Team member, James Akenhead, was victorious at Full Tilt’s Poker Million VIII event in London on December 4th. This closes a stellar year for Akenhead who’s successful run at the WSOP 2009 Main Event landed him 9th overall taking home a purse of $500,000.

The Full Tilt Poker Million is an annual invitational event featuring 72 top players going at it for a full five months of tournament action. With Full Tilt Team co-members Taylor Caby and Dag Martin Mikkelson seated at the final table with James, this was anything but an easy victory. Also seated at the final table were Peter Vasilou and Craig Wakeham, both of whom qualified online at Full Tilt Poker.

In a high octane final hand, Akenhead found himself calling with pocket 10’s when his opponent reraised all-in before the flop with pocket 6’s. The flop showed 3-4-5 offering Akenhead’s opponent an open-ended straight draw. The turn and river popped blanks and thus Akenhead’s pair were enough for the big “V.”

This win brought James Akenhead’s career tournament earning to over $2.7 million.
