2010 is standing to be a year of ownership changes in a number of Las Vegas casinos with companies with strong profits looking to absorb others that have run into financial problems.

Unfolding on the southern end of the strip is an example of this where Harrah’s is moving forward with their plan in acquisitioning the Planet Hollywood Casino. January saw Harrah’s taking over management of Planet Hollywood’s hotel operations as well as some of their bars and restaurants. While Planet Hollywood continues to manage their own casino, Harrah’s made it clear that their goal is to eventually command control of the entire operation. If successful in their bid, Harrah’s would have control of all 126 acres on the eastern side of the Strip between Flamingo Road and Harman Avenue. In absorbing Planet Hollywood’s 2,496 hotel rooms, Harrah’s would raise their inventory to nearly 23,000 rooms on or near the Strip.
