The Big Adelaide Poker Championships Kicks Off

The Adelaide Poker Championship is developing into one of the premier events on the Australian poker circuit and this year’s event is turning into the most action-packed with the festivities kicking off early yesterday.

The 2011 Adelaide Poker Championship is running from October 21st through October 29th at the SKYCITY Poker Zone. The event features 13 great tournaments running over a period of 9 days culmination in the $1,500 Adelaide Poker Championship Main Event scheduled for October 27th.

The festivities began yesterday with the $150 Teams Event. The Teams Event developed into a true battle that climaxed late yesterday with the team of Ryan Boswell and Mather Laird claiming victory. The Teams Event attracted 50 teams accumulating a total prizepool of $6,000.

The 2011 Australian Deaf Poker Champsionship kicked off today as a part of the Adelaide Poker Championships. This event is meant to promote Deaf Poker Australia, a non-profit organization whose aim is promote poker in the Australian deaf and hearing impaired community.

The 13 tournaments cover a range of different poker variations from No Limit Texas Hold’em to Pot Limit Omaha to Crazy Pinapple. The Karamalikis Cup is a $2,750 tournament scheduled to begin on October 26th and will be a 6 Max tournament. The tournament will be hosted by Jonathon Karamalikis, amongst the most successful Australian poker pros of all time, and is expected to play host to Australia’s best players.

While the event will play host to 13 great tournaments, the one that everyone has their eyes set on is the Main Event which will launch this Thursday. The Main Event is a deep stack with a starting stack of 40,000 chips and 40 minute blind levels. Last year’s Adelaide Poker Championship Main Event was won by Aussie Sean Dunwoodie who walked away with the first place prize $54,440.
