Aussies Making Waves At The 2011 PokerStars WCOOP
Saturday, 10. September 2011

A whole army of Australian online poker players has descended on the 2011 PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) and they have made their presence known. Over the first three days of this online poker extravaganza, Australian players have already claimed three big events.

Things were quiet for the Aussies for the first three events of the WCOOP and then in the fourth event “bratpack1979” became the first Aussie to capture an elusive WCOOP bracelet. The fourth event was a $320 Pot Limit Omaha tournament and “bratpack1979” beat out 1696 other players in just over 15 hours of play to walk away with the first place prize of $83,518

Things continued to look good for players from the land down under in the fifth event, a $320 No Limit Hold’em 6-Max Shootout tournament. Australian player Sal “ugritaly” Fazzino was one of 6 remaining players to battle their way through three shootout rounds before eventually finding themselves seated at a final table. Fazzino’s dream of capturing a WCOOP bracelet were dashed when he moved all-in holding [A♣][Q♦] against “nordlending” who called holding [A♦][A♥]. Fazzino ended up in third, thankfully he had $32,000 to help him work through the sadness.

The sixth event of the WCOOP was a $215+Rebuys Turbo No Limit Hold’em event that saw some very familiar names seated at its final table, Jonathan “MONSER_DONG” Karamalikis and Daniel “ShippityShip” Neilson. This tournament attracted 1589 players and amassed a prizepool of well over $1 million. Karamalikis walked away with the bracelet as well as the $179,586 first place prize after knocking out “medmar.” Neilson came in seventh and would have to settle for $30,101.50 in cash.
